Ignorance

One Of The Biggest Problems Of Our Society

Ignorance

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana.

In these days of our lives, we have the chance to meet a lot of people. Some of them have a lot of diplomas; some of them have only eight classes. Some of them are kind and loving; some others are mean people with awful intentions... Some of them are doctors, others are teachers, others are engineers and others are simple students. But all before that, at first we are humans. And as far as we all know, humanity started with the prehistoric people, those who weren't wearing any clothes, and those who had no guns or other weapons to fight for their food. During the centuries, humanity evolved and it became what we see today, something completely different. But along the way, there were some facts that influenced in a crucial manner the path of the history.

I think anybody should know at least a little bit about this. But one of the biggest problems of our society is ignorance. People don't care anymore about their past. They say they don't have time, they say they can't remember, they say it is boring and other times they just say it is irrelevant for their existence. False! Without knowing our past, where we come from, we are complete nobodies. We are what we are because of those who made us this. It is not even our right! It's a huge mistake to ignore the past! On another hand, how could we possibly evolve to something better if we don't even know what we are or who we come from?!?

Once, I was having a discussion with some persons I hadn't spoken to much. From a subject to another, one of the girls started to tell us about a film related to the Holocaust. I realized then, with a huge shock that the other girls had no idea about what the Holocaust actually was. Practically, they didn't know anything about the Second World War. At first, I thought they were making fun of me. But no, they actually had never heard about those historical facts.

A few weeks later, I decided to ask one of those girls how it happened that she didn't know anything about history. She answered shamefully: "Nowadays, most of the pupils are not interested in history anymore, not even in school." After that, she added: "I'm not very good at history because: first I learnt the historical years when I was supposed to, and then I forgot all about them; and secondly there was nobody to explain to me what really had happened".

A representative of a much older generation, Nicolae Raita, a 77 old male, affirmed:" The evolution of our country was only realized based on patriotism." Trying to explain why the pupils are so uninterested in history, he said: "All this starts in each family. Maybe in school pupils are taught about this, but if they don't have the basics formed from home, that is useless". He had a very melancholy look. With tears in his eyes he recited a few patriotic poems and added: "There are no more poems, no more songs. Those things completely disappeared from families." After that, he asked sadly: "Which of you still sings the hymn of our country? Do you even know the lyrics?"

He was right. We have completely forgotten. We don't care anymore. Now we have other values in our lives. But they are not real values. We don't appreciate anymore the models that lived long ago. We don't even know anything about them. And that's sad, very sad. Our society will probably degrade much faster if something does not happen, and quickly. We have already lost too many things along the way, and if we don't do anything, soon it will be no turning back. We'll be lost in ignorance.

As a conclusion, the sad truth is that people don't care about the real values of our world anymore. We are lost in indifference. We are lost in self-deceit. And, right now, we don't even seem to know what the solution could be.

Wow! That is a sad comment to make. I can't believe parents would not have told their kids anything about history, that is what shaped us today!

It's really nice to see that there is somebody out there who realises the level of complexity and depth that the ignorance in nowaday's society has reached. It seems to me that this complexity gave birth to a whole new mentality, an entire way of thinking in the "new manner". I've always asked myself why would somebody choose not knowing when today we are surrounded by a great number of opportunities and ways of accessing any type of knowledge we want to access. It's only a matter of wanting to do it. The answer, seen from an economical point of view, becomes very simple and, most of all, obvious. "Ignorance is bliss", as they say. Not knowing is the area where obtaining one's psychological pleasure becomes a process requiring the smallest amount of psychological effort. For this to happen, a person must have a completely nihilistic vision of the world, denying the existence of any value apart from the own ego. This is where this phenomenon of ignorance will bring people finally, if we don't try to diminish its general impact in time. oh yeah your fucking cool ccause you can read
